Let Spirit lead.

Last Sunday afternoon, I sat at my desk and sorted through some papers before joining an online video circle. I uncovered a collage I did several years ago with an image of a bird, and at the bottom was this quote from Antoine Lumiere: “Even when a bird walks, one feels it has wings.”

I decided to crop that image and rewrite the quote, all the while listening to the mockingbirds outside my window. I keep a guide to birds on my desk as I’m hoping to attract a wider variety; the essence of birds and flight were on my mind.

When it came time for me to join the online circle, there was only one person there. As he was engrossed in watching a news video, I sat for a moment, then felt compelled to get out my pad and colored pencils.

As we listened to the news, I started drawing a gentleman who I felt was for someone who had yet to join the group. By the time I had a rough sketch, a woman from Ireland joined us, so I showed her the fellow but neither recognized him.

Moments later, an American woman joined but she couldn’t take him, so I kept on drawing while other people demonstrated.

The interesting thing is, after the American woman joined, I got a strong feeling that the nose in the spirit portrait was wrong. I drew this fellow’s nose kind of long, but I got the feeling that it had to be a more rounded, snubby nose. My pencil drew in deeply at his nostrils.

My mind rebelled. No, I had already invested time in this guy, and I wasn’t going to ruin it by erasing this nose and changing it!

As I drew I got information on his build, his career in the Air Force, and other information. As I revealed the finished drawing and gave the extra info, the American woman recognized him as her uncle. She could also understand his message relating to the third eye chakra, hence the radiating signals coming from between his own deep set eyes.

Later, she emailed me this photo attached to the portrait of her Uncle “Snub”:

Seeing the photo, I just kicked myself! Not only did he have the shorter nose I was supposed to draw, his nickname was Snub. That was the most definitive piece of information I had and I refused to let Spirit lead my hand on the page. What was I thinking?

Oh, right. I was thinking...and not linking.

My lesson learned (again!), I vowed then and there to not get too attached to any drawing as I work on it. Spirit should always lead. Mediums must not question what they get, as everything is for the recipient and not for them.

Thank you, Uncle Snub!
