In the book “Tell My Mother I’m Not Dead” by Trevor Hamilton, the author relates his personal story of discovering the world of afterlife communication. He describes his experiences with mediums, and in his efforts to understand the phenomena, delves into the research of mediumship. He states:
“Sometimes one thinks that some of
the researchers who engage in this field have a breathtakingly simple model of
the nature of communication. All the evidence suggests that it is difficult,
that conditions can vary considerably. The power of the signal seems to vary
greatly and even when strong it is difficult to interpret single and mixed
sensory experiences accurately, to distinguish literal from symbolic images,
and to discern which aspects of the information provided have most relevance
and meaning for the sitter.”
I don’t really agree with that.
The nature of a good Spirit communication is breathtakingly simple. It relies on the skill of the medium. All of it. It isn’t difficult and it’s a cop-out to say it is.
A medium who will focus on the selfless blending of spirits, who then is focused on objectively relaying the emotions of Spirit, will find that it is down to her or himself on whether or not they are really linking well, or just popping in and out of the energy.
To worry about “the power of the signal” is wrong. It is the focus of the medium that should always be a strong, unwavering, and clear power. As a medium, you shouldn’t blame Spirit for a “bad connection” when the power to sustain a strong link is in your hands.
Interpretation, the way people “distinguish literal from symbolic images,” should be eliminated from a medium’s toolbox. Interpretation is thinking and only distorts what a spirit communicator says.
Imagine you’re on the phone with your friend Susy. It’s a nice, crisp connection. Susy sounds like she’s in the next room! It’s almost as if there isn’t a physical connection between your two telephones.
Then Susy says something about an upcoming holiday at Disney World that gets you thinking...
Is it the phone line that interprets what Susy is saying? Word for word, you hear what she speaks. However, when she mentions Disney World, you put your own spin on her words in your mind, your own opinions of the holiday hot-spot start building. You know that is not the result of the phone line. That is your humanity interfering. The phone line is neutral.
A good medium is neutral. A good medium gives the images, the “sensory experiences” exactly as she or he receives them.
A good medium will also not “discern which aspects of the information provided [has] the most relevance and meaning for the sitter.” That’s thinking. Everything received by the medium should be relayed to the sitter, as Spirit will decide what is needed at the moment.
In rare instances in a public demonstration, Spirit may hand you rude phrasings or disturbing imagery. You may want to edit it away for privacy and decency reasons. Try asking Spirit, “Oh, I can’t say that! Please give it in a way that won’t offend anyone!” Accept that Spirit may or may not change the image/words. Say what will get the idea across and keep going on, and the imagery will change, it will be alright.
You have the power, you are the dispatcher of information and all is well....especially if you have a “good sitter.” Later in the same chapter, Mr. Hamilton says: “It is not easy to be a good sitter and, at the least, guidance if not training should be provided here.”
That sounds like an excellent topic for a future blog post...how to be a good recipient. Naturally.
