Why I draw for Spirit.

The British medium Andy Byng held a webinar on the 13th of this month. He told us an important question he asks of his students, “Why do you want to be a medium?”

He said most students reply along the lines of, “To be of service,” or, “To make a difference in people’s lives.” My answer was, “I have no other choice!” and indeed, Andy felt that a person must be a medium simply because they are one.

The same can be said for spirit artists. You don’t need artistic ability, just the openness to let Spirit inspire your hand.

Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I grew up drawing faces of people “in my head,” and had no real desire to draw landscapes, or a portrait of the person in front of me.

On occasion, the drawing of the person in my head would be recognized by an observer (I used to draw at school when I wasn’t day dreaming!). For fun, I’d draw speedy caricatures of my friends or teachers and relished getting their emotions or expressions just right.

The fact that Spirit inspires me to draw was not clear to me until I studied mediumship. Prior to that, I experimented with psychic art, and often I like to merge the two, creating what I call “clair circles” where the artwork may combine a reading of the individual along with a spirit portrait.

Today, I received this message of thanks from a recent recipient:

[My clair circle] is SO beautiful!  I love that you use the sparkling pens...I think that adds a special touch to it! The colors are so gorgeous and vivid...and my husband’s eyes and his smile...you certainly captured the essence of his very special soul. Thank you so much!!!

To capture the essence of a soul is key, the perfect reason why I draw for Spirit. To provide a humble drawing that evokes an enthusiastic response, lights up our eternal soultrue soul-to-soul communicationis my joy!

Each time I pick up my pencils I never know what to expect, and not every spirit portrait finds a recipient. But the experience is best shared and I hope some time I'll be able to draw for you.
