"Yaakov's Dream" by Elisheva Shira |
Here’s another juicy paragraph from Genuine Mediumship: The Invisible Powers by William Atkinson:
“By the earnest study of the conditions requisite for the development of body, mind, and psychic sense, the intelligent medium will endeavor to meet the friends who inspire him at least half way on the Jacob’s ladder of communion, and to enter into reciprocal and conscious fellowship with them on the thought plane, so that their inspirations may freely flow through his instrumentality to others, unobstructed by his personality.”
Mediums should practice meeting Spirit at the drop of a hat. As soon as you sit in circle, or even earlier...as soon as you make it clear you’ll be sitting for Spirit, your intentions are clear to the spirit world. All it takes is for you to simply notice which spirit people are around you.
Imagine opening a door and greeting who is there as you would for incarnate people. Don’t be surprised to see a couple or a crowd! Practice greeting Spirit in this way and just chat with them, without any expectations of doling out information or delivering messages.
The paragraph continues:
“Classes for the development of mediumship along these lines are very much needed; classes in which the members are expected to take an active part, not merely to sit and sit, and let the spirits do all the work, but by systematic preparation and spiritual aspiration and cultivated receptivity prepare themselves to become lucid and capable instruments for the transmission of information and helpful influences from the other side.”
When you are working with the public, follow the same procedure of greeting spirit naturally. Don’t call attention to how you work, by narrating a blow-by-blow account of linking with Spirit. I think that is what Atkinson means when he says “cultivated receptivity.” To cultivate (or how you prepare to receive) spirit should be seamless. Keep your eyes open, your posture relaxed, your personality neutral.
The next time your teacher calls on you to give a link, don’t balk, or say “I don’t have anyone.” Know that they are there. Meet them halfway! Once you open the door, let your communicator announce her or himself in their own way of speaking so their personality shines through.
