Spirit does not have a relationship with things. Mediums do, and it gets in the way of how we talk about our spirit links.
I believe that spirit communicators kindly make a concession to our incarnate, materialistic lives by playing along with how most of humanity views life here on Earth: that we are 7 billion body/minds who only know the world through our own, individual awarenesses.
We earth-bound spirits put a lot of (maybe too much?) focus on things like our weight, food, jobs, hobbies, entertainment, homes, cars, gadgets. We obsess over our likes and dislikes, quirks and qualities, sex or lack of it, and how we raise our children. We enjoy sports, argue over politics, take vacations and have shared memories of the good, such as celebrations and the not-so-good, like illnesses and how people pass into spirit.
I think it’s a mistake to ask our spirit communicators to have the same focus. When they share information about their lives, they know what’s important, what the recipient needs to hear.
Think about the stories you may have heard about your relations while you were growing up. Perhaps you heard talk about heartfelt moments or heroic accomplishments, funny instances, how generous, stingy or hardworking a relative was. This is the kind of information that defines a person.
For example, when a medium talks about a curly haired, short, ample, 65 year old woman named Mary, he may have a few takers. But once she draws his attention to her granddaughter and relates how, giggling madly, she gave her a handmade, pink sock monkey there should be no doubt about this grandma’s identity, to the recipient or to the audience.
Sure, a communicator may give names, addresses, occupation, health issues--that’s all wonderful information to bring across if he or she is interested in doing so. Mediums just shouldn’t beat themselves up if it doesn’t happen. Moreover, they shouldn’t blame their guides.
It’s all down to how well you as a medium blend with spirit, how disciplined you are to observe spirit, and get their information across accurately.
Maybe grandma was talkative then suddenly--bam! Nothing. She’s gone quiet. All that you need to say is, “Now she’s suddenly gone quiet. Not a word--.” This too is evidential. Maybe that is how the granddaughter remembered her, as chatty at first and then, just a subtle, loving gaze... or, more dramatically, perhaps grandma suffered a sudden stroke. It’s not up to the medium to understand the silence, just say it and let it go.
As you can tell, I’m not concerned with ticking off items on an imaginary checklist. I’m more passionate about revealing a spirit’s soul: their emotions, their personality, the quality of light in their eyes. I want to express their passion in coming forward, taking the time to make a link to say hello. If I draw their portrait, as my hand is guided by Spirit, I capture their personality as well as create a likeness.
We must appreciate that spirits may forget their nitty gritty, materialistic resumes which often have little to do with the loving messages and lessons they want to share. The world of matter and minds is less important to Spirit. Emotions and integrity of expression are key to shedding light on what spirit individuals come to say.
Integrity means getting out of the way of your mediumship, putting thought and ego aside and bringing through the evidence that not only personality survives death--but in our ability to communicate accurately with spirit--we reveal our spiritual awareness is One.
