I love this infographic from Grammar Check! (Click here to view it in full.) It highlights how speaking specifically, actively and in the moment makes what you say come alive.
Mediums focus on details to establish a spirit’s identity. The list of magnifiers at the bottom of the graphic got me thinking that we must work on expanding our vocabularies in order to pinpoint the intensity of emotion spirit communicates to us.
Even saying that a spirit is “happy” is too vague. What kind of happy? Is she jubilant? Or is she simply pleased?
Say your spirit link is a skinny man. Was he thin from dietary choices or gaunt due to illness? Did he eat like a horse but looked sinewy because he ran marathons?
Feel into the why and you’ll receive more information.
Note that “I feel/ I believe” made the list. Mediums are taught to use these crutches to help them sound confident, in place of “I think.” But see how they are similar in making the speaker sound less confident.
How much better for a recipient to hear about their father in spirit, “Your father was sinewy because he jogged every day” instead of “I feel he was a father, I feel he was skinny, I believe he was active.”
We can practice using these approaches in our daily lives. Add more detail to each conversation by erasing your use of “Really” and “Very” and by adding some of the magnifiers to your vocabulary.
Why shine as a medium when you can dazzle?
